About Captain Gary
Hello, I am Captain Gary Katta. I am a United States Coast Guard licensed Master Captain (over 25 tons) with over 40 years of fishing experience on Lake Erie. I grew up in Dunkirk, NY on the shores of Lake Erie. I was lucky to have a family that also loved to fish. I fished with my father as often as possible when I was growing up. Thanks, Dad! When I was fifteen I purchased my own boat and fished as much as possible. I always dreamed on being a captain and doing charter boat fishing. Over the years, I have fished many fishing tournaments with my long-time fishing partners. Being a Charter Captain has allowed me to spend more time on the water and share Lake Erie with others.
Just My Day Job
After a 31 year career with Dunkirk Fire Department as a Captain/Firefighter /EMT I finally hung it up. While serving as a fire captain I also served as The water rescue team captain and oversaw the use and maintenance of our 25' Safe Fire/Rescue boat.

I have a flexible schedule and am willing to work with you to find a date and time that accommodates you and your schedule. I encourage clients to bring children along and to share the great sport of fishing. Fishing is a great family sport and children are the future of our sport. After all, if my father didn't take me fishing when I was young you probably wouldn't be reading my website!
